The background world – Atmospheric and Unforgettable

Skillfully treading the thin veil between indie rock and indie pop, Swedish band The background world crafts atmospheric songs that are both deeply evocative and unforgettable. Their music sits comfortably alongside artists like Alvvays, Beach House, Wolf Alice, and The Radio Dept., balancing immersive textures with personal lyrics. Perfect for late-night indie playlists or moments of quiet reflection, their songs explore a wide range of sounds and moods, where mesmerizing riffs and haunting vocals shine in equal measure.

Formed in Skövde in 2017 by Martin Platan and Hanna Leijon, the project came into full shape when Marcus Helmner joined in 2021, completing the band’s broad and eclectic sonic palette. Together they developed a sound rooted in melody and atmosphere, one that feels intimate yet expansive. Each release explores the hidden corners of human experience, what people don’t see, don’t want to see, or won’t dare to show.

After releasing several independent singles and their debut album, Paradise (2025), the band signed with Rexius Records to begin work on their second album. Their recent singles “You Got Me Thinking of Love,” “It Goes Like This,” and “Naive,” showcase their refined balance of reflective songwriting and immersive production.

As they continue to evolve their dreamlike, emotionally charged sound, The background world is ready to share more unforgettable gems, claiming their place in Sweden’s indie scene.
